John Fredrick Waanders, of Grand Haven, Michigan, passed away at the age of 92 in the convenience of his residence ignoring Lake Michigan on the early morning of Sunday, September 5, 2021. John lived a healthy, active and independent life up until he endured a head injury in a loss at his home on August 18, 2021.

John was born in Hospers, Iowa, on June 7, 1929, to Doores Waanders (1897-1995) and also Grada (Heynen) Waanders (1904-1989). He appreciated his childhood in a dense Dutch Calvinist farming community as the eldest of 7 youngsters bordered by uncles, aunties and also cousins. He went to Western Christian Secondary school, where he played basketball and was the school bus driver while still a pupil himself.
